SCG, the leader in the cement industry in ASEAN, is ready to co-host INTERCEM Asia 2025, a global conference for cement manufacturers and stakeholders, showcasing its potential and readiness to drive low-carbon cement innovation and its vision to lead the region in construction material innovation and sustainable solutions. This event will energize the cement industry with low-carbon cement, elevate sustainability standards on the international stage, and highlight Thailand's potential as a key market for the cement industry in Asia. The event is scheduled for May 6-8, 2025, in Bangkok.

SCG marks Thailand as the host for the INTERCEM Asia 2025 conference for global cement manufacturers and stakeholders, emphasizing its mission and green innovation, “Inclusive Green Growth,” which represents a significant turning point for the cement industry in Thailand and ASEAN, transitioning towards environmentally friendly low-carbon cement production and reducing carbon dioxide emissions on a global scale.

In an era where "green innovation" is not just an option but a "lifeline" for businesses, INTERCEM Asia 2025 will serve as a crucial platform to discuss urgent issues that cement manufacturers worldwide must adapt to, particularly in reducing carbon dioxide emissions, as the cement industry accounts for 7-8% of global CO2 emissions. Cement industry operators must also prepare for new measures, especially the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), which imposes carbon fees on high-emission imports, and the Carbon Tax, which taxes CO2 emissions from producers. These measures will directly impact the competitiveness and production costs of cement manufacturers in Thailand and ASEAN, as well as their opportunities for global market exports. Amid these challenges, SCG has continuously laid the groundwork and invested in low-carbon cement innovation, becoming a leader in environmentally friendly cement production in the ASEAN region by preparing strategies, research and development, production technology, and foresight into global cement industry trends and sustainable living futures.

At the event, SCG will present first-to-market innovations including:

  • SCG LC3 Structural Cement: A low-carbon structural cement prototype developed from SCG's unique knowledge, capable of reducing CO2 emissions by up to 38% compared to conventional structural cement while maintaining strength and durability, with plans to achieve a 50% carbon reduction in the near future, setting a new standard for the cement industry in the ASEAN region.
  • SCG 3D Printing: A low-carbon 3D printing technology that revolutionizes construction by creating highly complex structures, from design lines and curves to multi-layer construction, meeting the demands of modern architecture and aiding in marine ecosystem restoration, enhancing the competitiveness of Thailand's construction sector on the global stage.
  • TORA S-ONE: An innovative diesel-powered plaster spraying machine that significantly boosts efficiency, increasing wall plastering speed by up to 40% and maximizing material usage, raising the standard of construction in Thailand to excellence and addressing the skilled labor shortage.
  • SCG International: A leader in comprehensive supply chain solutions to help partners reduce carbon and enhance competitiveness, offering end-to-end solutions from raw material sourcing and transportation to product delivery, while considering environmental impacts throughout the supply chain.
  • Saraburi Sandbox: A low-carbon city prototype demonstrating the application of SCG's green technology and innovation in real contexts, serving as a learning and inspiration hub for industry, society, communities, and the environment.

In addition to product innovation, SCG is committed to continuously investing in environmentally friendly production processes, increasing the use of biomass fuels such as rice husks and straw to over 45% instead of fossil fuels, while also raising the use of clean energy like solar power to 40% and recycling waste heat from production processes. This aligns with the goal of achieving Net Zero by 2050. Transitioning to a low-carbon cement industry is not just about adapting for survival but about creating acceptance and setting new standards to enhance long-term competitiveness. SCG views this as a strategic opportunity to elevate the competitiveness of the industry in Thailand, ASEAN, and globally, while pushing Thailand to become a leader in sustainable cement and construction.

Another special highlight of this year's event is the souvenir "Elephant Sculpture" made from the prototype cement "SCG LC3" for speakers, symbolizing excellence in innovation and Thailand's Soft Power through a national symbol, showcasing the perfect blend of cutting-edge technology and Thailand's cultural identity.

At INTERCEM Asia 2025, participants will gain insights into the direction and trends of the global cement industry from SCG representatives, including Mr. Manasich Sarikaputi, Chief Innovation & Technology Officer of SCG Cement and Green Solutions, presenting on SCG’s Inclusive Green Growth: a strategic perspective on the industry's transition to a business model focused on sustainability and low-carbon cement innovation, and Mr. Jareonchai Chaleokriangkhrai, Bio-Circular Business Director of SCG Cement and Green Solutions and President of the Saraburi Provincial Industry Council, discussing the Saraburi Sandbox: a low-carbon city prototype demonstrating the application of SCG's green technology and innovation in real contexts.

Mr. Surachai Nimlaor, Managing Director of SCG Cement and Green Solutions, outlined that "INTERCEM Asia 2025 will be a crucial platform for initiating acceptance and setting new standards for the cement industry in the ASEAN region, focusing on developing low-carbon cement standards, supporting the use of renewable energy in cement production, and fostering international collaboration or startups in investing in CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization & Storage) technology. As a leader in the cement industry with regional production bases and a global export network, SCG recognizes that transitioning to a low-carbon cement industry is not just a challenge but a strategic opportunity to enhance competitiveness and emerge as a leader on the global stage. Co-hosting INTERCEM Asia 2025 is therefore a significant step reflecting SCG's potential, vision, and commitment to driving the Thai and ASEAN cement industry towards sustainable growth and environmental responsibility."
